My Aunt Virginia

CATAGORIES: REST IN PEACE — FloridaBill @ 9:34 am

I attended a funeral for my Aunt Virginia on Saturday in Mishawaka, IN. She had been ill for some time now and her death came as little surprise. She was not only my aunt, but my god-mother as well. Her family did an outstanding job with her memorial service. One of the things that one of her sons said during his eulogy was a word she used to describe herself: interested. She was always interested in who she was talking with at that moment. She always gave you the impression that she cared about you and what you had to say. She was a good listener and loved to have parties and sing songs and tell old stories. She had a laugh that was contagious and was married for over 50 years and had 9 children. She took an active and keen interest in the lives of her children, her grand children and even her many neices and nephews. Aunt Virginia always gave you the impression that she was happy to see you and was interested in what you were doing and what you had to say. She always made me feel very loved and always introduced me as her “god-child” which also made me feel special. It was good seeing my relatives and cousins (some of which I had not seen in decades) but I wish the event could have been a more happy one. I guess if I am orphaned now, I have no one with which to go live. Her on-line obituary can be seen here.

RIP Virginia You were very loved.

Week in Review

CATAGORIES: WEEK IN REVIEW — FloridaBill @ 6:36 am

File under: Week 14 of 2007
vatechmem.jpg

Today is 4-20. That means many things: Hitler’s birthday. Columbine. Oklahoma City Bombing (well, it was the 19th). Stoners. My wedding anniversary (Happy 16th!). We now also add the Virginia Tech Massacre (on the 16th) to that list.

Sunday is Earth Day. I just bought and installed a bunch of those new compact florescent light bulbs (or “swirls”) that pay for themselves in a few short months, but then learned that they contain high levels of mercury and should be handled and disposed of carefully. They also don’t work that great outdoors in cold weather. Indoors, they sometimes seem too bright. In any event, go hug a tree on Sunday.

JuggerFriends on the East coast started the week with a Nor’easter that pummeled them until about Wednesday. At the risk of jinxing it, the weather in the Midwest is starting to look springy.

It was announced last Saturday that Chicago is the top pick for the US site to host the 2016 Olympics. Now the real work begins: trying to convince the ILOC that the world doesn’t’ hate us. Good luck with all that Mayor Daley.

As further proof that the world has gone mad, I give you the Fucktard of the Week nominees:
Walter Dinalko of St. Paul, MN
Zacharary Q. Meeks of Quincy, IL.
Young Rachel Bell of Woodstone Village, England.
Tiffany Adler of South San Francisco, CA.
Juan Carlos Fernandez from my old neighborhood in Brandon, FL.
Michael “Dickhead” Moore from Perpetual FucktardaryDOTcom. I say we don’t let him back in the country.
The Prom Chaperones at Merrero, LA. If a girl is well endowed, she can’t go to the prom? WTF?
James Louis DeGasperin of Bruceton Mills, WVA. This is my niece’s gym teacher who apparently beat his girlfriend and her four year old son to death with a baseball bat.
All nominees aside, our clear and convincing hands’-down winner of this weeks’ Fucktard of the Week is: the VA Tech Shooter: Cho Seung-Hui. I think he may have been taking out some rage related to the Don Imus kerfuffle and wanted to take out some honkies, but instead got some Hokies. (God that is bad form isn’t it? Lord, please forgive me). His multi-media manifesto landed at NBC a day late (because he was too effing stupid to use the right zip code) and re-terrorized his victims and the entire country all over again. I hope no one ever tries to top his record number of kills.

Look for the new Ozzy Osbourne album out on May 22. He claims it is the first one he wrote sober. From what I have heard so far (“I Don’t Want to Stop” is getting radio play) it is OK. I save final judgment for a full hearing. Hey, since I have not been drinking, maybe I will like it a lot.

You gotta admit (even if you are Algore) that this headline is great. My favorite of the week for sure. This Sheehan headline was a distant second place finisher. I give her a permanent place on our list of Fucktards. Third place goes to this headline about an ass who testified at a trial.

I very much enjoyed this story about a blogger who closely followed the Duke Lacrosse Rape case. Go visit there now and see his post called, get this: “Week in Review”. How original. If there is anything at all you would like to ever know about the case of the three wrongfully accused young men, that is the best place for information. He even did some “live blogging” from the hearings. It is fascinating stuff. Well done sir. I really think his work will take blogging into a new level of respect.

A few weeks ago, I said that Alberto Gonzalez would not be resigning as Attorney General. Well, his time may have arrived. Good luck Alberto!

Happy healthy weekends to all.

WELL THOUGHT OUT OR NOT THOUGHTOUT AT ALL?

Multimedia Manifesto

The VA Tech Fucktard (I refuse to use his name for fear of martyring the bastard) who killed 32 people the other day left behind a multimedia manifesto of sorts. Was he possibly possessed by Satan? Just wow.
