THIS AND THAT SO I CAN CHILL MY MIND ON THE DUMBASS CAR WRECKER DUDE:
This is me in fall dress mode while at my bro-in-laws 50th birthday party. He lives in Terryville Connecticut and is a very big heated guy. He served in the Navy about the same years I served in the Marines. He’s a top quality guy and I wish him all the best!
This is Spousalopagus with the deserts in front of her during B-I-L’s 50th. They were homemade and pretty delicious…
Cathy and Bryan, my sis-in-law and nephew, are both most excellent and unique. Cathy ran a half marathon last week at 49 year of age and Bryan is a guy who received a Masters in electronic engineering from a grad school of note here in Taxaneticut.
This is where I wait for the bus everyday. The woman I the photo is a regular bus rider and just happened to get into the photo as I took the pic. She is a very nice person though and started a petition for everyone to sign when criminal bastards started breaking into cars in the commuter lot… The bus company and State didn’t (and don’t) care…

PICTURES FROM TODAY, OCTOBER 22, 2008
These are the empty artless wall within the Small Cubicle Insurance Company. This hall runs the length to three separate buildings on the fourth floor. All three structures were internally merged but they still look independent from the outside. You’d think some art or color could be added to infuse a little life and energy into the place but no… This was taken at about 0640hrs this morning after I got off the bus and began walking to my not-so-small cubicle (My cubicle is an exception to the mostly small cubicles that inundate SCIC). I have to go up to the fourth floor to get from the fist building to the second because on the first floor the crossover is blocked with what seems to be unending construction. After I walk across all three buildings I go up to the seventh floor where I work. I have no good views from my area though…
I was driving in this morning and took a shot as I cruised down Route 9 to the commuter bus stop. I hate getting up and going into work while it is still dark. We ought to enact a law that states insurance company workers cannot work, or travels to and from work, during darkness. That would be a good law…
I try and bring in water from home because they charge $1.25 for a bottle out of the vending machine. SCIC does not supply water bubblers, only water fountains. I won’t drink out of the water fountains because the pipes in the building are very old and I have no idea what might be in there. It’s probably safe to drink but I just can’t bring myself to do it. It costs about $.75 for three if I bring them… I also brought some trail mix from Trader Joe’s to snack on. Another money saver.

PICS FROM SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2008:
It was a tough night and I woke up wishing I went to bed earlier. Anyway, Mariann wanted to go to breakfast and so did I. I was in need of food… The Miss Washington diner is an old classic style diner in downtown New Britain. It’s a little run down but they make great food. This waffle was very good. Mariann and I split it and of course I got the bigger half…
I like my eggs with corned beef hash. The eggs are always over medium. The diner always gets the eggs right. The hash is great too.
The mirror was beige and quite ugly. We can’t buy a new mirror at the moment so we decided to paint it blue. Now it’s blue and ugly. Eventually we’ll end up with some mirror from India surrounded by carved dark wood. We’ll find one in the spring most likely… The room that this is in is the unfinished part of the basement. I keep my vinyl collection in there. I cleaned and played several records while we worked around the house.

ONE FOR A BUZZED SATURDAY NIGHT:
I posted this after coming back from the bro-in-laws Oktoberfest party. It was a great party and I did a lot of dark available light shots. This one has a surreal feel about it and accurately portrays the mood. There were about 80 people there during the late afternoon and early evening. the crowds thinned for the late night but it was good. Mariann drove home…
NEARING COMPLETION OF THE BASEMENT UTILITY ROOM:
These were taken Saturday morning. Spousalopogus is working so I brought things back into shape a little:
This is the way things look as of 1025hrs Saturday morning. The vanity is the old vanity and is simple placed where it was until we can afford to buy a new one. This one is Formica and ugly but clean. We’ll have the plumber hook up the toilet and sink Monday morning. He will have to see if he can fix the washer to because I screwed up the plastic threads on the water inlet last night. It pisses me off to no end. We bought these Maytag’s prior to them being bought by Whirlpool and they’re supposed to be the famous tough machine that used the bored Maytag Repairman in commercials. Why not spend another 50 cents or so and add metal inlets and valves? Anyway, whether the plumber can fix it or a specific type service person, it’s sure to cost a butt-load of cash. The art and other stuff in there are put there temporarily so we can see what the color (Lowes/Valspar “Shrimp Toast”) will look like when mixed with decorations. The vanity mirror, which was light beige (you all know how I feel about beige) has been painted glossy blue and will receive another two coats before it goes up above the vanity. It already looks a lot better.
This is the overall view of the new tile area with my back to the new slider which opens up to the backyard and pool. We’re about 96% finished now. As you can see, the last major item is the baseboards which I will do myself in the next week or two. Once that is done, I am going to have a happy hour and invite all the folks that I work with at Small Cubicle Insurance Company. It’ll be the first time I have done that. I have been waiting for two plus years to do it as I didn’t want the bathroom unfinished and gross. Now we’re close!
This is just a random shot of the bar area when the light coming in through the slider kinda highlighted the tennis ball feet I put on the bar stools. The original feet of the stools were damaging the wood and something had to be done. Everything is copasetic now. While the tile guys were working, I digitized about nine records. I have a lot more to do…OK, it’s now 1038hor and I must get in the shower and get on the bike. It’s going to be a classic fall day with sun and a high of 57 degrees. The trees are looking good and the crisp air is wonderful. I’ll just layer up. The big event today is my bro-in-law’s birthday party. He throws an annual party usually in June or July but this year he put it off so he could have it during his BD. He has made this an Oktoberfest party and great food and German Oktoberfest beers are expected. It’ll be fun. Usually, he has a pig roast for the party but this’ll be better and easier I’m sure.
So, I will ride up to thee party, stay about an hour, ride back and then get the car and Spousalopogus and go back for the beer drinking. I’m gonna try and keep it to a minimum as I am still in weight loss mode. I know FB thinks I will fail yet again, but I think it’s gonna work this time. I already went from tight 38 to comfortable 36. That’s big for me. Cheers and have a great Saturday!

MISCELLANEOUS IMAGES OF OUR TILE PROJECT AND OTHER STUFF WITH TEXT:
Here is the tile area partially done. The dude is tiling in the coat closet, garage entryway and the utility room and the closet in that room. It took him just over seven hours to do the entire job. Once the grout goes in, the black lines separating the tiles will be gone.
Here is Mr. Dude working on the final pieces of tile. He started at the left corner and did the coat closet and worked backwards until the first row entered the utility room. He then took that row across to the utility closet and continued all the way to the wall. From there, he just started against the far wall and worked backwards again until he got out of the room. Then, he just worked backwards to the door between the garage and the basement.
This is a view of the utility room tile completed. Spousalopogus was off on Wednesday and washed the walls with hot vinegar water to smooth out the wallpaper glue. She then sanded the walls with our drywall sanding pole. After that, she rolled on a coat of primer. Now, we can paint and do the baseboards Tonight and Saturday morning. With any luck, we can replace the washer, dryer and vanity Saturday or Sunday. The toilet goes back on Monday when the plumber comes. It’s amazing how inconvenient it is not to have a bathroom in the basement…
This is a view of the tile looking towards the garage which is in serious need of a cleaning/emptying of crap. We never did a spring cleaning and it is over run with all sorts of items we don’t need or which don’t belong there… We must have a tag sale this spring!
This is Mr. Desk Monkey. His face is always the same. I guess he has no mood changes. He’s been holding up my business cards for years and he never gets tired.
I rode in on Wednesday and these are my riding boots I bought at an independent local discount store called Mickey Finns. The brand is Double H and they are made in American. Other boots in the same prices range were all made overseas. I bought these because they fit and were affordable. I thought they were real leather when I bought them but it turns out that they are synthetic. The material is very realistic looking and feels pretty much like leather. However, it won’t’ stretch and conform to my feet like real leather boots would have. Next time I will have to look closer. I am getting use to them however and I can walk in them without getting major bloody blisters. The first time I wore them, I rode to Massachusetts to get an oil change on my bike. I had a very early appointment and figured I would walk to breakfast during the two hours they needed to complete the work. It turns out that the only restaurant was 2 miles away. When I took off that morning walking I didn’t know it was two miles, I thought is was a half mile or so. About half way there, I had massive blisters and had to limp. I thought I could make it so I continued well past the point of no return. By the time I got to the restaurant I was in such pain that I didn’t even stop at the restaurant. I saw a store across the highway and went in for some ointment and large Band-Aids. I bought them, sat on a bench in front of the story and carefully took off my boots to reveal blisters two inches across and all red. Damn! I finished up with the repairs and hobbled back to the restaurant. After eating I got up and tried to hitch a rid back to the Harley dealer. I tried and tried and no body stopped. I began my slow limp back to the shop with my thumb out but nobody stopped for me. Lousy Western Massachusetts bastards! Anyway, I did eventually get back to the dealer and rode home. Once on the bike the pain was minimal.
This is the 2 Express commuter bus on its way back to the commuter lot in the afternoon. I have been taking the bus for more than six years now. It is very convenient except there is no midday run. If you have to leave for an appointment or something you’re screwed. If it’s nice in the summer if it’s not raining I try and take the bike to work as we get to park for free. I will be using the bus exclusively as late fall approaches and won’t see the bike again until late April or early May.
It’s a sure sign of the coming cold and snow when the pool is closed for the season. We had the pool closed on Thursday. We really didn’t have a good pool season this year. Too much rain and lousy weather makes for a sad homeowner… I hope this season is better. In a couple months this will freeze solid and become covered with snow and ice until April.

FORGOT ONE PIC FOR “MY LIFE PICTURE DIARY”…
This is Choo (L) and Houston at the bar. Choo is having an Ipswich Harvest Ale. On the left is the mega large Lava lamp I bought at a tag sale for $10. It takes one hell of a long time for it to get cooking. I need to turn it on early in the morning to get it working well by the late afternoon… Also in the picture are the following: The pick guard from my Strat which I swapped out for a black one; Our pool table with the turntable cover on it; Our CD collection in blue CD shelf I made with F-I-L back in 1994; On top of the Giraffe head is a Josh Beckett bobble head from when he was playing in the minors (a gift from SalUki)… That’s about it.
YARBZ “MY LIFE PICTURE DIARY” FOR TODAY:
On Saturday I got on the motorcycle and went for a ride with no destination in mind. I ended up stopping at my friends Choo Choo and Choo Choo Spouse. They have a relatively new baby girl and while visiting, I took out the trusty old Panasonic LX3 and grabbed a few shots of her in the thing they call her “office”… It’s an interesting device that allows her to jump about and conduct all the business a baby needs to conduct. I hear that she is already designing a new budget plan for the Choo’s…
My buddy Houston came up from DC for the weekend and crashed at our house. On Saturday we went to J. Tim’s for a beer and lunch. As usual, we sat at the bar. I had the Knockwurst and Bratwurst special which was very good! J Tim’s is only about 3 or 4 miles away so it’s really convenient and always tempting.
Houston’s daughter, Daughteralopogus, lives in the same town I do while she is going to Central Connecticut State University. She is the reason that Houston came up in the first place. We all hung out in the basement bar for a while. Jim and I had some Ipswich Harvest Ale and she had a root beer. She is also hitting the Dean’s List from what I have been told. Good for you Daughteralopogus!
Later in the evening, the Choo’s came over and we watched the Red Sox lose to the Rays in Game two of the ALCS. Choo, Houston and I had a Mortlach which was put out by an independent bottler. Here is the full name: 1993 Mortlach 12 year old, Murray McDavid Bourbon/Guigal Cotes Rotie Syrah Cask, Single Malt Whisky. Because I am not up to the task of describing the nose and flavors of this wonderful singl malt, I will past this description from K&L Spirits: Nose: AMAZING, deep dried fruit aromas that fill your nose with raisins and prunes. It is the smell of a fresh baked pecan pie right out of the oven. Palate: Wow, wow, wow! The whisky first hits the palate with sweet, lush fruit of peach cobbler. Then it moves to the back of the palate to bring you dark, port notes with hints of chocolate. These flavors go on and on and will not let you go. This whisky has perfect balance and will keep you longing for more! (Susan Purnell, Spirit Buyer)
This is Spousalopogus and Ms. Choo with Isla (Spelling?)… Anyway, she (the baby) is officially the youngest human ever to hang out at the bar. The girls had some Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc I think.
Satchmo joins in at the bar every time anyone is over. He grabs a barstool and pays close attention to what’s happening. I am pretty sure he thinks he is one of us. Satch stays the whole time too, not just a visit now and then. Of course, he gets lots of attention from people and gets more than enough head rubs… He will headbutt you when he’s not getting enough attention and he has been known to cause a little spillage when you’re holding a drink. He’s very strong.
Houston, Spousalopogus and I went to the Makris Diner in Newington Sunday morning and had breakfast. I have eggs over medium and corned beef hash with rye toast. Houston had the same… Spousalopogus had potato pancakes. They were super yummy but also super filling. We still have two of them in the refrigerator… I like the light filtering in through the blinds so I pulled out the now ever present LX3.
Here is the project we’ve been working on. Now that the basement is mostly finished, we have the wash room which needed attention. When we moved in just over six years ago, the room was carpeted with green indoor outdoor carpet which was glued down over pre-existing tile. When I originally pulled up half the carpet last year I found the tile. We had to scrub our plans to put down new tile due to the labor factor of pulling the old tile which we didn’t know was there until the carpet came up. We finally got moving on the rest. This is the room in the state that we have lived with for over a year. Ugly concrete floor covered with mats. The washer and dryer, vanity and toilet prevented us from getting the rest of the tile and carpet until we had enough time and money to finish the job. That time has come.
Here is the room just before we removed the washer and dryer. Luckily the wallpaper came off perfectly and all we have to do is wash the walls with hot water & vinegar to get rid of the glue. We’ll to that this evening most likely. Then it’s on to painting the walls and ceiling prior to the tile guys coming in on Thursday. I will be taking Thursday off so I can be there and make sure the job is done like I like. I’ll probably not have to say anything though as we have a well respected company doing the work.
Here is a view of the basement area that is receiving tile. I put the wood down and left this area outside the rooms so it could be tiled. The entry from the garage is our main entrance and in the winter people are always bring in sand, salt and lots of snowy wetness from the nasty winter weather. It would ruin the wood quickly so I decided to have tile leading to the coat closet (far left) and wash room/mud room. It’s gonna be great when finally done.
After Spousalopogus and I finished the work last night, we decided to go to J Tim’s for dinner. We have a burger and some beer. It was very very good as usual. Here, Cathy is sorting through the drink orders that are in a very confusing state… She’s one of the best bartenders there. She does her work fast and efficiently, smiling all the while…

JEEP AND OTHE STUFF… W/ LX3
We went to a veterans salute last Saturday in Hartford, CT. They had lots of cool planes and other stuff like this old Willis that was fully restored.
At the vet salute these motorcycle folks rode in and set up for the opening ceremony. I think they were Patriot Riders but I am not sure.
More of the Patriot Riders at the vet salute.
One of the planes that flew in was a Vought F4U Corsair. This guy may or may not have been the pilot.
On the way home from the vet salute, we were behind this guy who apparently hates liberals. When we saw his license plate we couldn’t help but laugh… He is taking it all too seriously I think… Usually, the cars with the bumper stickers are the liberals. Probably crunchy college professors and people like that. It probably 90-10 liberals when it comes to cars covered with bumper stickers… That is what made this worth photographing. This shot is cropped up because I couldn’t get close enough.
This is an old building from our drive in Upstate NY. “Wick Block”… I wonder if they made contraceptives?
