YARBZ PHOTO DIARY OF STUFF TAKEN OVER THE LAST COUPLE DAYS:
These were all taken with my new Canon EF 50/f1.4 standard lens… On my 50D body this lens becomes the equivanent of an 80mm lens… Very shallow depth of field give an interesting effect…

I was watching Hogan’s Heroes last night on some HD channel… Klink and Shultz, classic characters acted perfectly.

TO BREAK THE SILENCE, I SHALL POST A COUPLE NEW SCANS OF ME DURING ME ROMMEL PHASE:
THIS IS ME, YARBZ, CIRCA 1980 WHILE IN THE .50 CAL TURRET OF MY LVTP-7 SOMEWHERE IN CAMP PENDLETON. I WAS WEARING THE NBC (NUCLEAR BIOLOGICAL CHEMICAL) MASK TO AVOID BREATHING IN THE HEAVY DUST WHICH THE LINE OF TRACS MADE AS WE MOVED THROUGH THE SCRUB BRUSH AND BONE DRY DIRT TRAILS. I WAS PROBABLY A LANCE CORPORAL IN THIS SHOT. BELOW IS THE SAME BUT OBVIOUSLY WITHOUT THE MASK… I REMEMBER HAVING A REAL FUN TIME SOME OF THE TIME AND THEN LOTS OF ‘UN-FUN’ TIMES, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE GOT BACK TO THE RAMP (THE PLACE WE PARKED AND SCRUBBED THE VEHICLES) AND HAD TO CLEAN UP THE TRACS AFTER OPERATIONS…
HERE I AM IN MY STANDARD TENNIS SHIRT ON THE BEACH AT CAMP PENDLETON, CALIFORNIA… WE HAD A GREAT BEACH WHICH WAS PRETTY PRIVATE SINCE IT WAS ON BASE.
ONCE AGAIN AT CAMP PENDLETON WITH A STACK OF M-16′S DURING A WEEK LONG FIELD OPERATION. I REMEMBER THE SMELLS OF THE CAMP PENDLETON AND EATING OUR FOOD WHICH WAS IN THE FORM OF ‘C’ RATIONS… BY THE LAST YEAR OF MY TIME IN THE MARINES, 1983, WE HAD SWITCHED TO MRE’S WHICH ARE WHAT OUR GUYS AND GALS ARE EATING NOW…

MISCELLANEOUS PICS FROM CALIFORNIA PART 2
This is a shot of Shaun… Shaun is a flipper of birds. This is at a little hole in the wall Mexican joint that was absolutely fantastic. The images below are from the Goat Hill Tavern in Costa Mesa. I have been gong there for years and always make a trip or three there when in town. It’s the most fantastic beer bar in the world as far as I am concerned because it has atmosphere in addition to the beer. There is a place across the street that has a lot of beer too but it’s boring and sterile. This time my camera peaked the interest of the bartender and he took me into the keg room. The pictures that follow are all different directions and not duplicate kegs with the exception of the one with the bartender. This is “Chilly Heaven”…
Here is a pic of Los Angeles with some hiking folks from Kenneth Hahn Park in the Baldwin Hills…
My pizza from Oggi’s near my parents place. It was double roasted garlic, goat cheese, pine nuts, artichoke hearts and kalamata olives. One of the best pizza’s I have had…
My dad shooting Los Angeles from Kenneth Hahn Park.

I have no idea what the hell this means… It was on an apartment buildings mail box.
Shaun is reflected in the sunglasses of some lady who started taling to us about our cameras and photography while we were shooting in Long Beach.

WHAT I SAW WHEN I GOT TO MY CUBICLE AT 0645HRS THIS MORNING…
My shelf fell overnight and no doubt made a loud crashing sound. My monitor had to be replaced because the screen was damaged… They gave me a used monitor that is hurting my eyes… I have asked that it be replaced. I have a burning sensation and a headache now… This one has a display that seems over-sharpened and overly bright and contrasty. I tried changing the brightness and contrast settings but that didn’t work… I hope they fix soon…

MISCELLANEOUS PICTURES FROM THE LAST WEEK:
I have been away and not blogging much lately.
The last three days were spent at Small Cubicle Insurance Company’s lab attending Fire Science School. It was a very interesting experience. I will have to reassess my home electrical system though as the school brought to light many of the common, but unknown to most homeowners, fire hazards and other issues. I think that everyone in class will spend some money at Lowes or Home Depot in the next few weeks.
Here is one of the women who attended class with us next to some mannequins the lab used and became permanent fixtures… They were used to help test flammable fabrics…
Here is some strange moth at the drive up window at McDonald’s where I went at 0630 for coffee one morning while driving to the science lab for class. The girls in McD’s were scared of it so I took a photo.
This is actually several weeks old. This was the oil leak I discovered coming from my GTI when I went to pick it up. I had an oil change at the dealer they over-tightened the drain pan plug and stripped it. I made them put in a new oil pan rather than re-thread the plug. After this was done, I went to pick it up and this is what I found… After complaining to several people about getting this fixed immediately, I finally got taken care of properly by the manager who happened to be in the following day. He promised a free oil change and a proper repair. I asked for a thorough detailing and he agreed. He also apologized which should have come before by the other employees in the service department. Anyway, all is well now and there are no more leaks. However, if it begins to leak anytime soon, I will attribute it to this event and make them take care of me again…
