I sent this to Canon in the hopes that it might find the right person at the right time… If any of you have ever looked for a professional quality, multi-format film scanner (possible Jorsa) than you know how I feel…

This is less a question than a pleading to Canon engineers… PLEASE develop a top quality film scanner which will scan at least all 120 formats. With Nikon out of the biz and nothing out there producing top quality scans from old and new film, there must be a market. Canon, being an electronics company as well as a camera company, should be able to product something… I know you, the reader of this comment, will not be in a position to help. However, you could forward this to the right people who may understand this great need. (Picture me on my knees begging and pleading for this as soon as possible)

Frank W. Buckles died early Sunday, sadly yet not unexpectedly at age 110, having achieved a singular feat of longevity that left him proud and a bit bemused.

Bibi Aisha, an 18-year-old woman from Oruzgan province in Afghanistan, fled back to her family home from her husband’s house, complaining of violent treatment. The Taliban arrived one night, demanding Bibi be handed over to face justice. After a Taliban commander pronounced his verdict, Bibi’s brother-in-law held her down and her husband sliced off her ears and then cut off her nose. Bibi was abandoned, but later rescued by aid workers and the U.S. military. After time in a women’s refuge in Kabul, she was taken to America, where she received counseling and reconstructive surgery. Bibi Aisha now lives in the United States. World Press Photo of the Year 2010, Jodi Bieber, South Africa, Institute for Artist Management/Goodman Gallery for Time magazine.

SHE WAS COOL… GLORIA STEWART

Gloria Stuart, the 1930s Hollywood beauty who gave up acting for 30 years and later became the oldest Academy Award acting nominee as the spunky survivor in “Titanic,” died on Sunday, Sept. 26, of respiratory failure. She was 100.

In her youth, Stuart, pictured circa 1934, was a blond beauty who starred in B pictures as well as some higher-profile ones such as “The Invisible Man” and two Shirley Temple movies, “Poor Little Rich Girl” and “Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.” But by the mid-1940s she had retired.

She resumed acting in the 1970s, doing occasional television and film work.

But Stuart’s later career would have remained largely a footnote if James Cameron had not chosen her for his 1997 epic about the doomed luxury liner that struck an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage in 1912. Stuart co-starred as Rose Calvert, the 101-year-old survivor, played by Kate Winslet as a young woman.
