Who’s Rhino?
Ryne Sandberg, a former Cubs second baseman and modern legend. He is much beloved and is currently managing in the minors.
Brenly’s major league managerial record:
92-70 (world series winner), 98-64 (division winner), 84-78 (3rd place) and 22-59 (fired).
Sandberg’s record at three levels in the minors, mostly class A Peoria:
71-68 (7th place), 60-78 (12th place) and 71-69 (3rd place). This year he’s 54-45 at AAA Iowa, but how that makes him a better candidate than Brenly is beyond me.
But is he as much “beloved” by Cubs fans?
Is this about being loved or winning baseball games?
That’s a good point. It should be about winning the World Series. I guess Brenly is more qualified, since he has been there. If Ryno was to manage the Cubs and take them to the WS, I think he would be even more beloved throughout the remainder of time.
I’d rather see ryno as a bench coach for now. Let him learn at the major league level under someone with a proven track record. His resume is just too thin.
