TOUGH MORNING… ALREADY
We’re putting Satchmo to sleep in about 1 hour. He seems to know for some reason. He is crying and he has never done that before.
He can’t drink water anymore and he has a tough time swallowing… I imagine it’s like if I had a super bad sore throat. He has been unable to clean himself like he used to… He was a meticulously clean cat. He was crusty and stinky yesterday so Mariann and I gave him a warm bath and shampooed him. After he was dried he seemed to be very happy with how he looked. It’ll be real tough at the vet office but we both know we’re doing the right thing… He is just beginning to be unhappy and unable to function. Our other cat, Ella, doesn’t give a crap…
Anyway, that is what is happening on this 35 degree rainy Wednesday morning…
My complete empathy and heartfelt condolences dude. I know how hard this is and I am there with you in spirit. I actually shed tears thinking about this today. Sometimes doing the right thing is really tough.
Goodbye Satchmo. You were an awesome cat and will be sorely missed. Mr. & Mrs. Yarbz will miss you more than you can possibly know. I hope you enjoyed the time and love and the good life they gave to you.
You might be surprised how Ella reacts over the next few days. Make sure you make an effort to give her some extra attention and be extra good to each other as well.
Take some time to grieve. Satchmo deserves it.
0932hrs: Satchmo is dead. Long live Satchmo!
He went very peacefully and the vets office was very very good. They had a hand made quilt on the table and the doctor and assistant gently laid him down while Mariann pet and talked to Satchmo… He never felt pain and went to sleep permanently within 5 to 8 seconds. He lived well, gave and received much love.
As for Ella, she is a priss and is nice to us but not so much anyone else… Just a few people… She is solo now. Maybe she’ll end up being nicer now…

I’m shedding the tears here too Yarbz. My heart goes out to you and Mariann. There is no doubt that saying goodbye to Stachmo was among the hardest things you have ever done. In my mind and heart, I truly believe our pets will see us again someday and will remember the love we gave them. I’m so sorry for your loss. He was a very cool looking cat and you described his personality so well over the years I feel as if I have petted him myself. Hugs to you and Mariann.
Sucks, man. The fact that it hurts is a pretty good testament to how cool Satchmo was. Nice that you were able to spend some time on this spinning ball together.
