From my e-mail – Profound wisdom

CATAGORIES: GENERAL NONSENSE — FloridaBill @ 8:32 am

“You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.” *

The U.S health care system is basically the laughing stock of the industrialized world. It is the most expensive, most inefficient, most corrupt, and most inhuman system amongst the developed nations, all thanks to private markets and for profit corporations. The idea that the government would do a worse job is provably false. Just look at medicare, medicaid and veterans health insurance. – Ben Cohen, The Daily Banter

Canada and Britain laugh at our system? I think not. Well, maybe some of them do, but they don’t have a good understanding and have not had any major helath problems I would guess. You want cancer care in the US or Britain?

Medicare and Medicaid are run better that private health care? Again, I disagree. Most people think insurance companies have to screw people to make money and that is a fallacy that the plaintiffs bar fosters to demonize insurance companies as bad guys and make them targets of litigation. My health insurance, while far from perfect, actually is pretty effecient and I think it is the doctors and the medical providers that give me more problems than the insurance does. –

PS and BTW: this post had nothing to do with health care, but with taxes and welfare. I think the statistic is something like nearly 48% of Americans’ don’t pay taxes. 52% of us carry the rest. Imagine, if you can and just for a moment, what this country would be like if the other 48% got to work, started paying taxes and being productive. We would once again be the bright beacon of the world instead of the “laughing stock” as Mr. Cohen would have you believe.

I listen to people everyday crying because they have cancer and they are not eligible for medicaid/medicare due to various things, income being one of them. They have a pre-existing illness and can’t get insurance. So be happy you have insurance. Some can’t get it,need cancer treatment, and can’t afford it. So far in the last two weeks one of my attorneys has been notified of four deaths on people with health problems and no coverage. Are we killing off America because some people just don’t want to help others because they are lower income? I can’t afford to cover my own husband due to paying the ex maintenance!!! Thank goodness I only have two more $300 payments to make and I will be rid of that selfish, think of himself only man who travels aimlessly around the US floating, camping, hiking, and flying in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon. I am not a user, a taker. I work hard for a living and so does he, yet we can’t afford medical insurace even at the rate that it is offered to me as a government employee. It’s pathetic. People need help – even upper income people find they are suddently without jobs and need help. It’s a true fact of life.

Is the insurance so expensive because of greedy, private, for-profit insurance companies? I would say that have SOME fault. My mother is undergoing chemo in a couple of different states, but I can’t seem to get an appointment with my doc. The pharmacy simply will not get a prescription correct for me no matter what I do. They send me meds that I didn’t order and make me jump thru hoops to get the ones I need.

However, nothing that has been proposed is going to change any of that. It is going to put a lot of people out of work, costs billions and create a bureacracy that will be unweildy and not allowed to fail (ie: will be around forever no matter what). I am most happy that the administration has not been able to ram this down congress’ throat and that they will now have more time to think about how they want to fuck up the country.

I recently met a few upper income folks who are out of work, and you are right, it’s a fact. Those folks can make it longer with no job and without going on the public dole than those who are of lesser means.

I am glad to hear that you only have a couple of support payments left to your ex.

  5. WeirdSin says:

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before,
but had once failed an entire class.

    ——————————————–

That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

    The professor then said, “OK,
we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”.

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D!
    No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering,
blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

    (Please pass this on)

If somebody is unable to understand THIS explanation, I have serious doubts about their ability to even function in society, much less run our country!

As the late Adrian Rogers said, “you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it..”

I work with people who don’t do diddly squat most of the day except talk on their cell phones and go move their cars so they don’t get tickets because they are too lazy to walk up the hill in the mornings. I don’t buy this bs that those that work hard will stop working completely because others are slackers. It just isn’t real life.

  7. cj says:

FB, I’m sorry to hear about your mother needing chemo. I hope everything goes well for her and she has a speedy recovery. I also hope you have gotten a doctor’s appointment by now. I took off a few days. I needed a vacation!

  8. FloridaBill says:

cj: Thank you for the nice thoughts about my mom. She is doing really well and only has a couple of rounds of chemo left (hopefully). She is very much not letting chemo interfere with living her life. And, she looks pretty good bald. I now have an appointment with my doc for later this month. I still haven’t resolved my prescription issue and am about to war with them for sport if it isn’t finished very soon.

I think you are probably right about the hard workers, but that means they have to carry the slackers. That ain’t right. You needed a vacation because you work hard and needed to recharge because you have the weight of those slackers to carry. As long as you carry them, they will never work hard cause they get a free lift. That’s the real life point. Soon (if not already), they will ask you to move their cars for them, so they don’t have to break off a cell phone call or drop their crackberry or get themselves up off their own lazy asses.

Will you have a party when that last payment is made to your ex? When and where? You never know, we might show!

Oh, and WeirdSin and Adrian Rogers are certainly right about not increasing wealth by dividing it. That is just stinking thinking. Socialism (and whatever is being practiced by the current administration) reduces us all to the lowest common denominator and does not allow for building wealth and security. At one time, I wanted to save the world too, but now, I am worried about my kids, how I pay for their college, etc. so they can get ahead and the health and happiness of my wife and myself and my family.

    To hell with the slackers.

  9. cj says:

I think I was trying to convey my ex as a slacker and is preying off my wealth. At least I think that was what I was doing when I ranted on and on. You are right, I did need a break from this place. I’ve busted my behind to a point that I am completely caught up, now of course, I am behind again because “I don’t know how to do what CJ does” thinking comes into play when I am gone. That’s okay, CJ denied some leave requests today that the slackers made. They are now on their cell phones crying about the mean old boss. Boo hoo.

A co-worker just completed chemo and today finally took off her head covers. She doesn’t look bad and her hair is growing back nicely. Hell she didn’t look bad in ball caps and scarves either. I almost cut my hair off to join her this time around around. Admittedly, I chickened out because it was cold. I feel rotten even writing that down. It’s her second bout with breast cancer and by golly she is going to beat this disease if I and the rest of us can keep supporting her and help her have a positive spirit.

I agree FB, to hell with the slackers.

As far as a party, I have been dying to go to Chicago. Lots of people from here go there regularly and the things they have done and the food they have ate while there have piqued my interest. So maybe…come the end of October, I will be in Chicago.

  10. FloridaBill says:

When the boss is away, the mice will play…and the slackers will slack even more.

Harley Davidson biker scarves make great head covers. My son got his hair cut (but not shaved) when his grandmother lost her hair. I was going to do it and chickened out myself. I am a self-loathing self-centered shitheel sometimes. Keeping a positive attitude is more than half the battle in my opinion. My mom has that in spades.

If you get to Chicago, let me know and we will at least get together and hoist a few. Maybe arrange a JuggFest in the West Burbs…
