I did indeed.
Black Sabbath was just, just, geeze.
Critics are critics because they have no talent themselves.

I can’t say I disagree with the idea that Aerosmith is an American Stones rip-off. I was never a fan of any band who had a singer more worried about how to dress than how to sing.
But to say Sabbath was awful - if you’re going to write about music it helps if you know something about it’s history.
Marc Hirsh is a putz.

I’d like to see his list of people who should be but aren’t…
That’d be interesting… This dude has no historical reference it seems… Sabbath was a formative band.

Black Sabbath created a genre. ‘Nuff said.

Both Sabbath and Aerosmith have their place. The seminal Aerosmith album is “Rocks” which in a word, rocks pretty dang hard. While they may be an American Stones clone, they made it from Boston to the big time and their survival alone is noteworthy. They have been there and back again and deserve the recognition. Also, I thought in High School that Joe Perry was a guitar God. As it turns out, I was right again and Mr. Hirsh can go suck eggs.
On the flip side, the absolute worst concert show ever was Aerosmith in their drinking days. They could barely stand up and the music was unintelligible.

I actually like Aerosmith myself…Toys in the Attic and Rocks are 2 that stand out in my mind.
As far as the music critics go, I’m always astounded at the lack of knowledge many display when writing about groups and a subject they know little or nothing about. A few years ago (well…more the a “few” years) I was sitting in a dentist office reading a magazine with a music review section. The album being reviewed was Sammy Hagar’s “Voice of America….VOA). The reviewer wasn’t very kind…which is ok. What stood out was his accusations that here was yet another rock new-comer lead singer who joined with a mega-band (Van Halen) and immediately left for a solo career after making a name for themselves within a band. I was compelled to write a letter to the idiot and do his job for him and supply him with the correct information which was that Sammy Hagar had been around LONG before Van Halen had even conceived of being a band and that Sammy Hagar was under contract with HIS record company for a certain number of albums and had to make that album to fulfill his obligation to HIS lable…all information that an “expert” should have known before running his mouth about things he obviously had no clue about.
Bottom line…people who listen to critics deserve what they get : )

Sammy was with Montrose when he was only like 17 years old and wrote stuff like this:
Lord! Oh, yeah.
When you need a friend through thick and thin
Don’t look to those above you.
When you’re down and out, ain’t no doubt
Nobody wants you.
But you’re rock candy baby
Hard, sweet and sticky.
Rock candy baby
Hard, sweet and sticky.
When you’re seventeen reachin’ for your dreams
Don’t let no one reach it for you.
Pull up your pants,
Stretch out take a chance.
If it can be done, you can do it.
BTW, VOA isn’t a bad album…

VOA is a great album. It has a song on there called “Dick in the Dirt”.
