Confederate Memorial Day
Author Unknown
The marching armies of the past
Along our Southern plains,
Are sleeping now in quiet rest
Beneath the Southern rains.
The bugle call is now in vain
To rouse them from their bed;
To arms they’ll never march again—
They are sleeping with the dead.
No more will Shiloh’s plains be stained
With blood our heroes shed,
Nor Chancellorsville resound again
To our noble warriors’ tread.
For them no more shall reveille
Sound at the break of dawn,
But may their sleep peaceful be
Till God’s great judgment morn.
We bow our heads in solemn prayer
For those who wore the gray,
And clasp again their unseen hands
On our Memorial Day.

Hmmmm.
Too bad they chose to defend the slavery… Otherwise, as an army, they were very motivated and brave people.
Popular misconception. It was about the federal government’s power over state government. State’s Rights.
States rights to do what?
Govern themselves.
Why the hell would they want to do that?
You talkn’ like some sort of bleeding-heart, panty-waste, northern LIBERAL!
Toss out those Obahma for president buttons and get with the Program Son!
Now now now… I just think that slavery was a fucked up thing. Now maybe the CW was about more than that but it was certainly about that too. Obviously, nobody can defend slavery or sympathy for it… That said, I love the south.
When I lived in Virginia I used to go to the reenactment of The Battle of Bull Run. I never understood why the Confederate “sons” wanted to keep reliving that. They lost. Twice.
BTW – really good small mouth fishing under that bridge
