YARBZ FROM THE PAST:
This was taken by my dad in 1967 or 1968. My mother had taken some of my father’s fatigues and cut them down to fit me. My dad had just been promoted to Major so he gave me his old Captains bars. (It would not do for me to out rank him in our own house!)… Anyway, my mom was always a General and out ranked all of us when it came down to it… Major Yarborough used to call my mom, whose name is Lea, “General Lea”… My little brother, Paul, is now 39 and living in Colorado…
I hope everyone had a great holiday and ate lots of food and drank lots of fine liquids and such… Now, on to Christmas…

My dad enlisted in 1943 and served in the Pacific during WWII and in China after the war. He got out in 1947(?) but reenlisted when the Korean War broke out. He was a Corporal when he left after WWII but when he reenlisted for Korea they made him start at Private again…
He made Corporal again quickly and then sergeant. At that time, he was selected for Officer Candidate School and was one of a very few enlisted men to become an officer. He returned to Korea after completing OCS and finished the war as a 1st Lieutenant.
After the Korean War ended, he went into the Reserves where he rose to full bird Colonel before retiring in 1988. He was not in Vietnam but his unit was close to being called on several occasions.

Still, serving in WWII and Korea is a pretty impressive resume.
The best my dad did was get stationed with the Navy in Bermuda during the Korean War. Even though when I was a little kid he told me all these stories about the Reds that he killed.
