Early April Weekend for the Feste Family
Vermont is still covered in snow. We have been skiing nearly every weekend for 6 months now. Yeeha!
Long story regarding the acquisition of this pic in the first comment.

Here’s the story:
There is so much snow up there still, that there is a good 2 feet of snow still in the woods off of the trails—very uncharacteristic for this time of year, but spring has not been warm. Anyway…. we were skiing deep in the woods of the trails (see it at http://youtube.com/watch?v=gcyVBnpsQkc )when in the deepest part of the woods I see a black cylinder sitting deep in a trough of the bumps. Turns out it was a 80-300mm zoom lens for a digital SLR camera. It did have stickers indicating that it belonged to the mountain photographers, but finders, keepers….
Turns out it was for a Nikon mount (it was actually a Tamron lens on the lower end, but actually has good reviews), so I personally counld not use it on my Canon. I dried out well, but I could not test it’s function since it did not mount on camera.
So the next day I went to the photographer’s kiosk and asked if they lost a lens in the woods. Turns out one of the dudes lost it out of his unzipped bag in 8 inches of new powder about 10 days before. They scoured the woods looking, but never found it. They had ordered a replacement, but were still interested in getting it back. I struck a deal that they would shoot some family poses and exchange glossy printout for the lens.
He gave an 8×10 (scanned above) and two 5×7 of the miniFestes. We picked them through their computer set up, and it rung up to $64!!!!!
We’re back up for more skiing this weekend.

Great pic. Too bad you had to shell out $64 to give the dude’s lens back. Global warming is taking its toll on skiing and skiiers and lenses this year…
PS: I am way jealous of all the skiing.

the photo dude gave me the pics gratis for the lens. freebie in return for the lens. I saw him this week, and apparently the lens works just fine. karma lives.
