END OF A ERA…
Gary Gygax, Dungeons & Dragons creator, dies
I’m sure that a fair chunk of us on ‘The Nutt’ spent a large portion of our youth/adulthood playing D&D for hours/days on end. Seems somehow appropriate that I just tossed out all my old gaming stuff when I moved. Le sigh…
What’s a guy got to do to get some good news ’round here???

I confess…..did play a bit in middleschool, then my cousin had some of the early PC games (pool of radiance) that i would waste many hours on after college
I’m sure there will be a weekend game in his honor at Mallet.
I confess, I have never played one moment of D&D, but I know folks who got it bad.
Two great responses by my gaming buddies:
1. “Wow! He finally ran out of hit points.”
2. “Damn… did he fail his saving throw?”
He will be missed.
As much of a geek that I am I never got into D&D. I guess because all the guys who played it near me were assholes.
A Eulogy for Gary:
Gary had lived an adventurous life, exploring the Forgotten Realms of the Icewind Dale or the mountains of Stromreach. He was a great friend; the kind that would lend you a +8 shield against Tanarukk, but more so…he was a great Dungeon Master. Somebody to give a tip when fighting the minions of Lolth. Once he saved my life. We were both young chaotic good Barbarians, just learning about our surroundings. I was hastily walking across a dark bog when Gary saw a Worghest screaming towards me. If it wasn’t for Gary, I wouldn’t have been able to equip my boots of escaping in time. Yes, that was 10 years ago and we’ve been champion companions ever since. Now Gary’s manna supply has run dry, and his saving throw has failed and he will forever be missed, but I know he is with the great Dungeon Master in the sky.
Can I have his +4 red dragon plate armor and +2 charisma amulet. Oh, and the Helm of Odin too. It’s just lying in a pile where he got smitten.
