When I was living in Maryland, I belonged to the Marine Corps League in Bowie. We had a Marine who landed in the first wave on Iwo…he was 16 at the time (he lied about his age in order to enlist). This man REFUSED to say anything about it except for one thing….”We lost a lot of good men there…better men than me.” He was also like Cotton Hill (from King of the Hill) in that he STILL detested the Japanese for the way that they tortured and executed Marines during the war. He thought we were way too forgiving.
They are STILL the greatest generation this country has ever produced. A BIG salute to ALL WWII vets…living and dead.
Whether he was really there or not doesn’t matter any more. Thank you for your service Sergeant Jacobs and Rest IN Peace.
{Respectfully salutes…]
Semper Fi Mac…RIP.
