The “Sexual Deviation” lecture during the psychiatry course in medical school addressed the matter. Of course there was the definition of “deviant” sexual behavior (big possibilities in that discussion), since homosexuality was, but is no longer considered pathological.
But what was interesting in that lecture was the concept of categorizing the deviation by the severity of the possible harm to the recipient: for example: pedophile priest molesting 10 year old alterboy…could be lasting psychological issues, yaddayadda; S&M gay men club culture– heck, they go there looking for the stuff, so whatever; Zoophilia–interestingly the professor stated that this is not such a big deal, because, heck, it was only sheep, and they don;t seem too bothered by it. Then he brings up necrophilia, and said it was not as uncommon as you would think, but not a big issue, because the recipent is dead.
That made us all think a little. That and the anecdote of the newly married funeral director who on his wedding night asked his bride to take a cold bath then lie still in bed.
